Inside activities

We have had more snow here than I can remember in a long time. Of course there are those moments of bundling up to play in the snow but when we come in it is time to find something to do.

Katie had gotten a new paint set at Ikea and this seems to be a good way to pass the time.  They seem to like to paint on anything they find!

Lots of great art comes out of this group!  An activity where we all seem to get along for awhile!

Snowy Photography

A snow day yesterday for the kids and plenty of snow to play and photograph. After snowing all day Sunday the sun started to show its beauty yesterday.

Brian loves this weather and is the happiest when it is snowing.  He was like a little kid on Sunday.  There are a lot of photos of kids playing in the snow but for this Tuesday morning serenity was the theme.

In our new home I have nothing on the walls yet but am thinking of a black and white photo wall. Some of these may just end up there.

Happy Tuesday!

Grandma's Birthday

Today would have been my Grandma's birthday.  She has been gone for awhile now but I think of her often and wish her a Happy Birthday in Heaven.

She was the mom of many, seven to be exact, was a farmer's wife, and eventually worked in the nursery of a hospital.  She buried one of her babies, out lived her husband, and helped many of her kids through various parts of her lives.  I like to think of her as a strong woman, a woman from a different time period, a woman who saw so many changes in her life. She sent sons to war at a time when communication was much slower if at all.  She loved to tell stories many of which I did not take to heart as a young person. I always wish I could hear those stories now and of course take photos.  Photos of her but also of her hands. I remember her hands, the rings she wore on them, and the way they were hands of work.  I remember her love of fresh tomatoes and dinners that were simple and to the point.  As a young adult I would go see her and go to church with her.  I would be a novelty in a congregation that was very small. I loved visiting her then and escaping for a weekend.  I think she would like the family we have created and understand the chaos that many kids bring, but mostly I would want to take her to my garden and maybe even share a piece of blackberry pie.

I love you Grandma!

Knitting Time

I have been working on this cowl for what seems like a long time. That is what happens when you have to take it out and start over:) I am on the last rows though and then I have a plan for my next project.  I am reading "Book of Unknown Americans"  and really like it so far. It was one of those books sitting at our new local library that I love so much.

Dance whenever you can...

Miss Katie loves to dance.  On this night it was almost time for class but if the music is playing she is dancing at home.
This beautiful daughter's heart is created in a way to love any kind of music or dance.

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a        certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way."

A camp that is made for him.

Last week these little ones and I headed to Denver so that Andy could go to a camp just for kids with cleft lip and palate.   They would spend the weekend having so much fun in the snow tubbing and skiing.

It is such a great program for kids to be together that have so much in common. This is the second time he has gone and both have been such positive experiences.

While we were waiting for the bus to leave we had some time to just play outside the hospital. Katie found some new "ears" she had to try on!
